Outdoor lighting can be a significant deterrent for burglars who certainly don't want to risk being seen.
It could be fitted over front and back doors so that a burglar cannot use cover of darkness to break in unseen. It can also give added security to members of the household when walking up the drive, as there is then limited scope for someone to hide in the garden, and is also useful just for seeing who a caller is.
The most common form of lighting is passive infra-red which is activated when someone comes into its field of vision. A passive infra-red unit can activate one or more lights.
It is important to ensure that lighting is covering the right area – otherwise it could inconvenience neighbours or passing vehicles.
Of course, the field of activation can be adjusted to trigger the light at the correct distance.
